The eye of the retirement

Hi guys,

Today I have a paper pieced creation to share with you. Paper piecing is the technique where you stamp the image (or in this case print the image) several times onto different papers and then cut the papers out to make the coloured picture once stuck down.

I used a pale yellow card blank and masked off a triangle. I then used a cotton wool ball and various coloured inks to make a spotty background. I used greens and blues for the outside and yellows, oranges and reds for the inside of the triangle. The image I used was one I found on google when looking for free book themed clip-art. I coloured the hair and skin with Promarkers (Tawny Owl, Sandstone, Buttercup, Cocoa, Primrose, Pale Pink and Satin). I then used various patterned papers for their clothes and books. I used some free peacock papers as well as the Papermania collections Henbury Lane and Capsule collection Sunshine. I die-cut a matt for the image from yellow paper, and printed the sentiment in yellow on purple paper.
I then printed the sentiment for the inside of the card in purple on yellow paper. The sentiments were die cut with a free tag nesting die.

I would like to enter this card for the following challenges:
open-minded crafting #8 school/reading

I actually have a knitting technique challenge over on facebook this month - https://www.facebook.com/groups/CraftingTechniques/ feel free to come along and join in!

I have another audio book review for you today:

The eye of the leopard by Henning Mankell
Hans Olofson’s father is a seaman who has been stranded on land after his wife disappeared on him, which causes him much distress. This leads Hans’ early life to be unsettled, which is made worse when tragedies occur, first to his best friend and then later on, to his lover. This causes him to take a trip out to Africa, which changes his life for nearly twenty years. During this time Hans struggles to understand Africa and its people, but a near mental breakdown causes him to reassess his situation.
This is an enjoyable book, although there are times when Hans seems to do the opposite of what he actually wants to do, for no apparent reason, which is annoying. It is a good fictional account of the relationship between the whites and the blacks in Africa in the 1970’s and 80’s and is taken from the perspective of an outsider. I did not think this book was as good as ‘The troubled man’, but it was still well written and interesting to listen to.

Thank you for looking,

Hugz Tinz
