Bright on Dark - Firework season

 Hi guys,

It was my turn to pick the challenge theme over at MAWTT this month, and I thought as we will soon be having lots of fireworks for bonfire night, then bright on dark was a good theme for the month.

I used a stencil and neon green cosmic shimmer polish paste for the leaves background, leaving a space for the butterfly stamp at the bottom of the page.

The butterfly was part of a free layering stamp set, but this stamp was the complete butterfly, which I initially stamped with black pretty colour ink due to the size of the stamp, however when I went to heat emboss this the powder just blew off the card. Therefore I restamped the image off to one side, to create a shadow effect, this time using the tiny versamark ink pad. I then heat embossed with Papermania Seafoam White.

I then stamped the 'peacock butterfly' label onto each side, doing one in black and the other heat embossing with the same powder.

I would like to enter this card into the following challenges:
ATSM #441 Make your mark (inked background)
inkspirational #277 Fireworks (inspired by colour)
MTTC #493 Wings
SimplyLessisMoore #476 Use a stencil
DaringCardmakers - Creature comforts

Please see the next post for another couple of cards using this stamp set (I wanted to make 3 different cards).

I also have a book review for you:

Kismet by Amina Akhtar

Ronnie is an American Muslim who was born and raised in New York. When her parents died she was left with her aunt, who wants to keep the traditional ways of doing things as this means she doesn’t have to raise a finger herself. Ronnie could not see a way out of this until she met Marley. Marley is a wellness and spirituality fanatic who convinces Ronnie that she knows how to enable her to have a better life. Ronnie chooses to sell her house and move to Sedona with Marley. Sedona is a large tourist attraction for those who are interested in the Earths natural energies, and crystals etc.

Slowly Ronnie and Marley’s relationship starts to deteriorate, as Ronnie realises she doesn’t like the same things Marley does, and Marley finds a new friend who can get her the attention she desires. Also, shortly after they arrive in Sedona bodies start turning up, of people that are not very much liked within the community. Furthermore, Ronnie is having strange dreams, which she believes are the cause of the ravens that she is feeding in the area.

Can Ronnie make the relationship work? Who is killing people and why is Ronnie dreaming about the murders before they happen? Who can be trusted in Sedona? These are questions that you are asked throughout the book and the story is very well written. There are certainly some unexpected twists at the end of the book. It is a little over-the-top in a lot of places, but a good light-hearted thriller none-the-less.

Thanks for looking,
