Vase in black

 Hi guys,

I have changed the colours slightly for my next vase, using a black base instead of white. The colours I used were Liquitex paints in primary red, primary blue, primary yellow, mid-green and mars black. Here is the result:

As you can see the black did overpower the colours slightly unfortunately, but there is some nice patterning on the vase. The canvas is quite a subtle, nebula-like effect. Very spacey I think anyway.

Fridge magnets from vase pour

 Hi guys,

I meant to share these magnets in yesterdays post but forgot. These are from the drippings from the vase and canvas pours on my previous post.

The second one is just from the vase paint left overs, whereas the first one is also from the canvas that included the blue paint, hence the pretty blue areas on the magnet. I have to say that for me the blue adds much needed drama to the magnet - what do you think?

Shimmer Metallic Glowworm

 Hi guys,

Our new challenge went live this morning at Creative Moments, with the optional theme of shimmer and shine. To make my card shine I used metallic pencils on the glow-worm that Glinda is riding on.

I simply cut the image into a rectangle, and then trimmed some circle patterned paper for behind and layered onto a blue card. Room has been left for the sentiment.

Orange and Yellow

 Hi guys,

We are due another heatwave and I have to work in a cold air conditioned office :(. However, I have been experimenting with my fluid art again, this time using some glasses we had but didn't use because they were too large, to make vases. Here is the first of the vases I have made, along with the resulting canvas (I don't like to waste the paints) and magnets.

I do not like the outcome of the magnets and the vase is quite rough in texture (which may soften once glossed of course). I do however quite like the canvas and the way that cells have formed in one corner, but the ribbons of colour are very distinct in the rest of the design.

Let me know what you think of these - your feedback helps me decide what to try next.

For a baby

 Hi guys,

This is coloured with a variety of marker pens and then fussy cut using X-cut scalloped circle nesting dies, along with a base circle of green card. I then added Honey & Hugs stickers to finish.

Colouring Medium

 Good evening,

Our new challenge over at MAWTT gives you the opportunity to use your colouring mediums. Maybe you have some that you have not used for a while, or you have just invested in a new medium - now is the chance to get some use out of them. I have lots of images that I have coloured in my stash so I used this opportunity to use one of these and show it off.

This was coloured with promarkers and the cut using x-cut scalloped hearts nesting dies. The blue backer is an x-cut large label nesting die.

 Hi guys,

Our new challenge has started today at I Love Promarkers, and this will unfortunately be my last challenge on the DT. It is sad and I have so enjoyed being a part of the team, but I am not using my cards as quickly as I am making them and it is starting to get me down having so many boxes of cards around the house.

Anyway, here is my last DT inspiration for you, using an image from our sponsor Dr Digi. The optional theme is to add a button.

I coloured the ostrich with Promarkers and die-cut the sentiment from X-cut self-adhesive glitter paper. I left it simple and just added the two buttons (flowers and sunshine) to finish the card.

Blue heart

 Hi guys,

I just wanted to share the magnet dip with you from the last tree ring pour I did. I realised I had not got a photo of it :)

I do love the way this one turned out with the blue really popping against the black. Shame there is so much reflection in the photograph!

The Silver Sea Fluid Art Panel

 I wanted to do a slightly larger panel for a change, in order to try a travelling ring pour. My colours were blue, bronze, black and white and the panel is 10x24 inches.

This was difficult to photograph due to the reflectivity of the bronze in the painting.

Pastel palette

 Hi guys,

Our June challenge started today over at Creative Moments with the optional theme of Bright or Pastel colours. Now I chose to do a fluid art creation for my piece to show something other than papercraft and give people inspiration to maybe try something a little different. The colours that I chose to use, by themselves, were reasonably bright - mid yellow, mid red, red-orange, apple green and azure blue, along with white. However, when they combine together they create a lovely pastel colour palette.

Seafaring Mice

 Hey guys,

We have a new challenge over at I Love Promarkers today, with the optional theme of By the Sea. I love this challenge as it encompasses so many options. We are sponsored by the whimsical Di's Digi Stamps, and I chose to use this lovely mice in a newspaper boat digi stamp for my card.

The image was coloured with promarkers before being fussy cut. I used a patterned background block which can in a paper booklet from a magazine a few years back. I thought this was perfect for a sea backdrop for my little mice. To finish I simply added some drop diamantes as sea splashes.

Cross Stitch Bookmark

 Hey guys,

We have a new challenge starting today over at Moving Along with the Times, with the theme of Use your Favourite...Stamp, die or tool. My favourite tool for card making is thread and needle, however it does take quite a while to create a card so I do not make that many. I also love using dies to create aperture cards.

Here is my bookmark that I stitched up just in time for this challenge to go live.

This was a free kit with The World of Cross Stitching magazine and I do love the colours used for the birds. So nice and bright - perfect for summer.

Masculine Bear on Motobike

 Hey guys,

Thanks for popping back to see my finally finished bear on motorbike, using the pencils class from Kit and Clowder to colour this one. I am limited in my pencil colours, so it looks nowhere near as detailed (I only have 24 colours). This is my inspiration for our Masculine challenge over at Creative Moments.

Dragon skin from a pour

 Hi guys,

Our new challenge has started today over at I Love Promarkers. I wasn't able to join in this week due to lacking time to create a card, however do pop along to the blog to see what the DT have created - there is some fabulous inspiration!

I do have a new fluid art to share with you that I made when my parents came to visit, whilst doing some with them (they have never done it before and their creations are quite amazing!).

For this canvas I put ribbons of purple and blue acrylic paint (Artiste paint in Electric Blue and Metallic Amethyst) down onto the canvas, then layered some cheap black and white onto these. I placed white at the top and back at the bottom. I then swiped down from the top using damp kitchen roll. Using the same roll I swiped back up from the bottom. I then dipped a comb into silicone and pressed this into the paint to create the scale-like effect.

Fluid in the blue

 Good evening,

I thought I would share a few of my most recent creations with you. This time I went for a colour palette of blue, yellow, black and white for my paintings. All of these were layered the same way - white, yellow, black and blue, with 3 layers of each.

This first one was a dirty pour, where I just poured from the cup straight onto the canvas in a wavy line. Once the cup was empty I simply stretched the paints over the canvas. The ribboning created the interesting effects in the paint pattern.

This one was a flip cup. As can be seen the blue and the yellow largely mixed to give a central area that is a dark greenish-yellow with a blue tint. To me this one looks like an angler fish, with the areas where the blue has remained at the corners being the water it is swimming through. There is a beady yellow eye!

this final one is a tree ring pour - the first one that has created actual tree rings rather than a rose :D. I do love the effect that this one has produced, with some lovely knotted areas. To do this I did change direction of my circles a couple of times whilst pouring. It is also interesting how the blue is all on the one side and the black on the other.

Make it Masculine

 Hey guys,

We have a new challenge just started over at Creative Moments, with our optional theme for the month being Masculine. The lovely Alyce from Kit and Clowder has sponsored us this month (my emails were playing up and I got my class late, so watch out for that on the reminder post, 1st June). I used one of her older images for my first card.

I coloured this sweet little bear using a mixture of pencil crayons and alcohol markers. I am currently colouring the bear from the previous class, so do come and check out the reminder post on the 1st June!

Special Birthday Lilies

 Good evening,

Our new challenge has gone live today over at I Love Promarkers. Our optional theme is Special Occasion, and we are sponsored by the lovely Sheepski designs.

I coloured the image with Promarker pens, then die-cut the image using M&C stitched square nesting die. The same size die was used to cut a piece of patterned paper from a 3x3 paper stack from the Range. The smaller square was used to cut the music note paper in two squares. A larger square was used to cut the pink card mat. This was adhered to the blue base card and then diamantes and a peel-off '50' were added to finish.

Open Cup - Galaxy

 Hi guys,

I have some more fluid art pictures to share with you today. I did another experiment using the same focal colours but with different base colours, with the open cup pour technique. This technique involves laying a base pillow down and placing some form of open container into this pillow. You then fill this container with your paints, slowly lifting occasionally to allow the paints to move out into the pillow (if your container is light enough the paints will move under it themselves without you having to lift the container. Once there is enough paint on the canvas, you lift your container. I lifted mine slightly off to the side to drag the paint and not leave a large splotch of one colour in the centre of the canvas.

The main paints used were Crawford and Black Deep Red, Mid Yellow and Ultramarine. Silicone oil was used in these primary colours only and not in te base colours. The first one is on a 12x9 inch canvas and used white as the base layer. The layering pattern was red-blue-base-yellow-red-base-blue-yellow-base-red-base-blue-base-yellow-base-red-base-red-blue-base-yellow-red-base-blue-yellow-base.

This has been named Galaxy in Pink, as for me it really looks like a galaxy! I did heat the canvas after stretching, which made the star-like cells throughout (which I am sad about - I personally preferred it before heating). I do really love this painting! I love how the primary colours have interacted so delicately and the white has stopped them from being too vibrant.

The second canvas was done with a black base on a slightly larger canvas. This time the layering was red-blue-base-yellow-red-base-blue-yellow-base-yellow-base-red-base-blue-base-yellow-base-yellow-blue-base-red-yellow-base-blue-red-base-yellow. This time the paints did not really come through the black paint, but stayed underneath, therefore heating was required to bring the colours through the base. Less black would have allowed the colours wo be more vivid. However, where the container was lifted has allowed the yellow to really pop against the black.

I have also done a video for this one to show the detail, as the light wasn't great.

The last canvas was a flat 10x10 inch canvas with Metallic Silver Atriste Paint as the base. This time the layering was slightly different - red-blue-yellow-red-silver-blue-yellow-red-blue-silver-yellow-silver-red-silver-blue-silver-yellow-silver. As the canvas was flat I needed less paint, so I made the layers slightly thicker and fewer.

For this one I again moved the container to the side while lifting to spread the paint colours. This was also heated, to keep the consistency between the paintings. The silver allowed much larger cells to form, but the layering caused the paints to become more muddied than in the previous canvases/ However, there is still some bright pops of the primary colours throughout the canvas. This one is my least favourite of the three if I am honest. I wish I had done the layering exactly the same way as the previous canvases.

Butterflies

 Well we are now in May - happy May Day! Our new challenge started today over at Moving Along with the Times, with the theme of  butterflies.

Here is my creation:

For this card I die-cut a butterfly from X-cut self-adhesive glitter paper. I then used metallic and translucent X-cut self-adhesive card/paper with the solid butterfly dies that were free with a magazine. To finish I used a fluid art dipped strip of card at the bottom and added a sentiment sticker onto this.
