Birthday @ I Love Promarkers

It is time for a new challenge over at I Love Promarkers, and our optional theme is - BIRTHDAY. We are sponsored by the fabulous Bugaboo Stamps  and I have used their Birthday Critters Sign.

I coloured the image with Promarkers and then placed it onto a slimline base card. I simply added a few birthday themed peel-off's to decorate as I didn't feel that it needed too much more.

I would like to enter this card into the following challenges:

DragonflyDreams - Spooky or cute

In the purple

 Hi guys,

I have a more masculine style card to share with you today.

I used a lilac cardstock to make my base card. Then I stamped the stag, from a free stamp set, using my Pretty Colour Black ink pad and masking off the triangle with waste paper. I let the ink dry and then added some washi tape sentiment strips, a 'happy birthday' peel-off and a die-cut and promarker coloured butterfly.

I would like to enter this card into the following challenges:

SimplyCreateToo #165 Black and purple only

inkspirational #223 Angle it

AHSC #389

craftycatz #522 wild and crazy

I also have another book review to share with you today:

Every Missing Thing by Martyn Ford

Ten years ago Ethan Clark went missing and was never found. Sam was the detective at the time and he lost his family, his career and his health because of his obsession with finding Ethan. He was certain that the father had not killed him, although the media were using this angle for their stories. Now Robin, the daughter of the same couple, has gone missing. The circumstances are identical: age, time of disappearance and the fact that she is nowhere to be found. Sam has retired, but he is pulled back into the case when the father states that he will not talk to anybody else. However, this time there is a trail to follow and a chance that Robin could be found. Sam knows that playing by the rules could mean that they lose their chance, however not playing by the rules puts his family and his own life in jeopardy. This is a well written story, and the perpetrator and story behind Ethan’s disappearance, and also explaining why the father seems so suspicious are kept hidden until right at the end of the story. It is a bit macabre in places, and also maybe a little extreme, however when dealing with gangs and if your family is at risk, you may well do anything to make sure they are safe.

And finally an audio book review for you - as it has been a while!

Gate of the Dead by David Gilman

This is the third book in the Master of War series. The peasantry are rioting through France looting and killing anybody who is better off than they are, regardless of the person’s character, putting Blackstone’s family in danger. Meanwhile, Blackstone has been summoned back to England, from where the Prince banished him in the previous book for trying to kill the King of France.

Upon his return to England, after a treacherous journey, Blackstone finds out that it is actually the Kings mother that has summoned him, and she wishes him to best the Prince in a joust competition. She is playing politics with Blackstone’s life because she knows the King needs him once again. She manages to convince the King and the Prince of Blackstone’s use, and blackmails Blackstone by using his family against him, even though realistically she has no idea where they are.

Blackstone finally finds his wife and children, but Christiana is in a perilous position as she has spoken up against a German knight. And not just any German knight, but the brother of the knight Blackstone killed at Cressey. Blackstone has to stand up for his wife’s honour, while also trying to subdue the rebellion. Unfortunately, things take a turn for the worse for Blackstone before the end of the story, and it ends with him taking to the sea and leaving his son in the care of his former mentor.

This is very gruesome in parts and does not hold back from the brutality of war and the peasant uprising. However, it is a very good story and keeps you wanting to know if Blackstone will ever find his family again.

Witchy Shoes @ Aud Sentiments

 Hi everybody,

We have a new Anything Goes challenge starting at Aud Sentiments today. We are sponsored by Digi Doodle Studios who kindly provided me with the image for my card - Witchy Shoes - which I partially coloured on the computer before printing out. I then used promarkers to colour the star border and the shoes (as these kept saturating the image when on the computer). The sentiment was hand written and then a peel-off wand was added to finish the design.

I would like to enter this into the following challenges:

AlphabetChallenge - M for Magic
